Jellyfish don’t have it. That’s why they’re jellyfish. Without it we are like a tent without a tent pole. Maybe a colorful awning with beautiful tent flaps, but collapsed. Life doesn’t run without it. Even the most talented sports teams will lose games without it. I went to Stanford, I know! Without it, the best will fail: without it, dreams, hopes, and relationships fade off into the fog and vanish like the morning mist.
I’m talking, of course, about confidence. Confidence, most of all, in God. With it, Jesus said, all things are possible for those who believe. Without it, we’re lost. The people of Israel discovered that the hard way.
