Rev. Douglas Forsberg

Senior Pastor

Welcome to our web-site where you’ll find lot of information about the mission and ministry of this congregation.  The Lord is at work among us, transforming our lives and hearts to make them more and more like Jesus’.  It’s my privilege to help this congregation follow Jesus as he leads us into mission in the world.  You’ll find some of the things that I’m passionate about and how I came to serve a church in Rochelle, Il below.

I grew up near Cleveland, OH, and while it’s been a long time since I lived there, I continue to root for the Indians and Browns.  Like other people who root for teams that don’t win so much, I can only say that a fan sticks with their team through thin and thinner.  I left Cleveland and went to Westminster College in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1994 with a B.A. in English.

At Westminster I’d been involved with a campus ministry called The Coalition for Christian Outreach.  Following graduation, I worked with the CCO at Bethany College and it was during these years that I really began to grasp the overarching narrative of the Bible and the important truth that ministry is about helping people connect their story with the larger story of redemption that the Lord is writing in history.  Everything I do in ministry flows from that goal.

In 1997, Amy and I married and went off to Ohio University where we continued in part-time campus ministry and also earned graduate degrees.  In 1999, we moved east to Princeton, NJ where I attended seminary, having sensed the Lord’s call to ordained ministry.  From there we moved to Newport, RI where I served as an Associate Pastor for 6 years at 1st Presbyterian Church.  Then we moved to Doylestown, PA where I served as the pastor of The Anchor Presbyterian Church for 5 years.

Some of my favorites are included on the following list:

  • My Kids – Cara and Peter
  • Things to Do: hike, bike, a day at the beach, golf, swim and playing volleyball
  • Authors (fiction) – Wendell Berry, Ivan Doig, Marilynne Robinson
  • Authors (non-fiction) – C.S. Lewis, Eugene Peterson, Donald Miller
  • Theologians – Augustine, John Calvin, Abraham Kuyper, Deitrich Bonhoeffer
  • Books of the Bible to Study – Jeremiah, The Psalms, the Gospel of John and Hebrews

My family moved to Rochelle in the summer of 2013, and I am excited to serve this congregation, seeking to help all of us recognize the ways in which the story of our lives is a part of the larger story of redemption being written in history by our faithful and loving Heavenly Father.  I look forward to getting to know you and invite you to send me an email or give me a call if you have any questions about the church and ministry here.
